How can you tell that a person is genuine?

First, pay attention to your gut. How do they make you feel? Is your intuition quiet or telling at you to walk away?  Whatever it’s telling you, trust it.

That being said, here are some more hints that they might not be telling you the truth.

  1. If they say things like “let me tell you the truth” or “I’m gonna be honest with you”… then they are trying much too hard to convince you of something.
  2. They might touch their face, throat or mouth a bit too often.
  3. Their feet are moving. Shuffling. Signaling they are really uncomfortable.
  4. Some super liars/con men will overcompensate and stare at you for longer than usual. Watch how many times they blink!  If they don’t, walk away. People telling the truth won’t stare at you to intimidate and control you.
  5. This last one speaks more to body language. Look at their feet. Which way are they pointing?  Toward the door or towards you?  If they point to the door, pay attention!  They want to leave.

People telling the truth will be breathing and speaking normally. Their blinking will be normal and they won’t touch their nose or throat, well unless they have a cold! Their smile will be genuine.

In a nutshell, trust your intuition. That little bird on your shoulder will never steer you wrong.

Until next time!
