As I sat down at my desk, I put my fingers to the keys to write an article for our monthly newsletter.

I stopped without typing a single word.

What on earth do I write about?

Sadly, our world is on fire right now.

So far this year we have seen a pandemic, quarantine, murder, riots, looters, murder hornets, floods, forest fires, cicadas, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and racism (which seriously needs to stop).

Am I missing anything?

The business world is also dramatically different now. The pandemic has forced record numbers of people to work from home. From advertising and marketing to customer service, it has all changed.

Just writing all that gives me a headache.

Happily though, here is what hasn’t changed.

Love hasn’t changed nor has it gone away. The blue sky is still up there. It’s above some really dark clouds at the moment, but it’s still there.

Remember, people might not remember what you said, but they will never ever forget how you made them feel so make every interaction as positive as you can. You want them to feel like the service was so fantastic they couldn’t possibly think of going anywhere else.

So here is my suggestion…

When it comes to your business. I suggest that you take every single service that you offer and think about how you could take it five steps further. What MORE could you do for that customer? How could you make their experience with you even better?

That’s all well and good Katharine, but what about my personal life? It’s bad out there right now!

Well, in my humble opinion, the only way through all of this is to pull together and help each other. Spread kindness to everyone you meet. Show people how to do it right. BE the change you want to see in other people. BE that person.

Also, please be aware of what you are posting on social media. The state of our world is taking a mental toll on people. Seeing the violence can be triggering. I know it was for me the other day. Be careful when you share something and make sure you are helping and not making it worse. And if you DO get overwhelmed by it all? Here’s what helps me…

  • Try unplugging from the news for a day, and limit your exposure to negativity.
  • Read something positive.
  • Listen to your favorite song.
  • Take a walk and think about everything you are grateful for.

At the end of the day, here is how we can all help…

Be the change and act like you want other people to act.

Be kind and generous to everyone. No exceptions.

Be a lighthouse for our dark world.

Stand up!

As for Ron and I personally?

We stand for peace.

We stand in solidarity.

We stand for equality.

We stand for love.

We are standing.

Listen, the sun always comes out after a storm so we will get to the other side of this. We got this!

May love, peace and joy be with you all.

Katharine
