Discovering Your Intuition

Discovering Your Intuition

Intuition: That Thing You Keep Ignoring Until It Says ‘I Told You So.’

What if I told you that you’re already intuitive?

You might roll your eyes. You might tell me you’ve never had an intuitive experience in your life. You might even think intuition is reserved for special people who can predict the future or communicate with spirits.

Well, I’m here to tell you something.

Ten out of ten humans are intuitive.

Yes, even you.

Intuition isn’t some mysterious gift handed out to a select few. It’s a natural part of being human. Some people recognize it early in life. Others spend decades ignoring it. And some people don’t realize they’ve been using it all along.

I was one of those people.

For years, I thought intuition was something other people had. Looking back, I realize it had been speaking to me since childhood. I just didn’t recognize the voice.

Sometimes It’s Just One Word

Back in 1999, long before I retired from the concierge industry, someone suggested I write a book about it. So, I started thinking about what I should include. There was so much to cover. Where would I even begin?

Then I heard one word.

“Everything.”

That was it.

No dramatic announcement. No flashing lights. Just one word that appeared in my mind.

And that’s exactly what I did. I wrote about everything. How I started the business, what worked, what didn’t, and all the lessons I’d learned along the way.

At the time, I didn’t fully appreciate what had happened. Looking back, I recognize it as one of those moments when my intuition was speaking, and I actually listened.

Learning to Recognize Your Intuition

Intuition doesn’t always announce itself.

Sometimes it’s a gut feeling about someone you’ve just met. Sometimes it’s a sudden urge to call an old friend. Sometimes it’s simply knowing something isn’t right, even when everything looks perfectly fine.

The problem isn’t that we don’t have intuition.

The problem is that we’ve gotten very good at talking ourselves out of it.

Think about that. Society has spent generations teaching us that intuition is something only special people possess. That some people are born with a gift and the rest of us are simply out of luck.

Well, I have news for you.

We’re ALL special. And we’re ALL intuitive.

Some of us hear the answers. Some see them. Others feel them deep in their gut. And some simply know something without being able to explain how they know. There’s no right or wrong way to experience intuition. We all receive information differently.

Over time, we’ve learned to trust everyone else’s opinions more than our own inner voice. We analyze. We rationalize. We ask everyone what they think. We search the internet. And somewhere along the way, that first quiet feeling gets buried beneath a mountain of opinions.

Sound familiar?

Start Paying Attention

So how do you begin discovering your intuition?

Start paying attention.

Notice those little feelings and unexpected thoughts. When you’re faced with a decision, pay attention to your first reaction before your brain starts presenting its arguments.

You don’t have to act on every feeling. Fear, anxiety, and wishful thinking can sometimes masquerade as intuition. Learning the difference takes time and practice. But you can start by getting curious instead of immediately dismissing what you feel.

And please, stop expecting something extraordinary.

Intuition is often remarkably ordinary.

It might show up while you’re washing dishes, driving to work, having a conversation, or taking a shower.

Or it might arrive as a single word.

“Everything.”

You don’t have to become intuitive. You already are.

You just have to learn to recognize it.

Until next time!
